Half Life and 3D models update..

Its been a day of hitting our head against the wall - which is sometimes good as not everything is meant to be easy. Importing into Half Life is however proving to be more difficult than first thought. We have managed to import into The Unreal Engine complete with textures to create a 3D section of London but Half Life 2 has left us stumped.

Apparently its easy to go from Hammer (the Half Life editor) to CAD via DXF but not visa versa. We are going to plough on and still hope to home into a clear route from packages such as SketchUp to Half Life but it may take a few more days...

- Any help on this btw would be most welcome -

Any luck building your HL2 model? I tried once and also gave up...

    Alatown,

Thanks for the comment, its still proving problematic but i think we are almost there.

Soon as i get anything in I'll write an importing for halflife post as its far harder than it should be at this stage!

Have you tried the XSI Softimage Mod tool?

  4. As alatown suggests, you're looking at the wrong tools. Importing CAD data involves creating props (models), and Hammer doesn't come into it save for final placement in the world. You'll want something like XSI or Maya and some tutorials.

this may be a useful forum for you, I have found it to be a wealth of info and helpful people. I am a Maya user and am trying to build where I work in HL2.(but just so we can blow eachother up). Yeah, valve sure makes it difficult! Good luck...
