Stop motion timelapse can be a very powerful way to communicate a city, director Davie Lee of davidleedop.com has used the technique to capture his return trip to Japan.

It is interesting how evocative of place a 41 second clip can be...

City of Books - This is Where we Live

The film below is simply stunning, it was produced for 4th Estate Publishers' 25th Anniversary by Apt Studio and Asylum Films. Entitled 'Welcome to our city - to our world - of books, this is where we live', the film was produced in stop-motion over 3 weeks in Autumn 2008:

This Is Where We Live from 4th Estate on Vimeo.

Each scene was shot on a home-made dolly by a bunch of animators; you can see the time-lapse film below for the London sequence being prepared and shot:

London Shoot Timelapse from 4th Estate on Vimeo.

Take a look at http://www.25thestate.com/ for more details, the movie is possibly one of the best stop motion animations we have featured so far on the blog....

Stop Motion: Nice Clean White

Nice Clean White from DaBrainkilla on Vimeo.

Sometimes its nice to take a break from the 3D renderings that we usually feature here on digital urban. The music video above entitled 'Nice Clean White' is an abstract journey in our everyday surroundings, illustrating moments of life in a continuous way.

The clip contains 4500 still photographs where urban landscapes meet pastoral scenes to create a whirlpool around the theme of the video: the subjective point of view and urban life.

Created with a stop motion technique, it was conceived with a very simple Nikon Coolpix E4600. The clip is video free, created entirely from still photos taken in the streets of Nancy and Epinal in France.

See the main video page on Vimeo by DaBrainkilla for more info.

Origami Animation - Blue Screen Visualisation

Ok so its not urban but it is sort of digital and a fascinating movie displaying the techniques of stop frame animation and blue screen to mask out the background for effective visualisation:

The movie was created using a FUJI FinePix S3 PRO camera and AfterEffects 6.5 to extract the background/insert the shadow, final editing was carried out using Premiere 6.0.

Take a look at Nariomaru on YouTube for more info.
